Meet Our Periodontist THIAGO MORELLI, DDS, MS
Dr. Thiago Morelli earned his doctorate in dental surgery from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. After discovering a passion for periodontology, he knew he was called to be more than a general dentist. Dr. Morelli completed an additional three years of advanced coursework in Periodontics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor before moving to North Carolina. He worked as a full-time professor in periodontics at UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. He served as Director of the Periodontology and Implantology program at the same prestigious institution for five years. He continues to teach periodontology as an adjunct professor to this day.
Dr. Morelli is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology and a Fellow of the International Team of Implantology. These titles are given to dentists and periodontists who demonstrate an exceptional level of skill, a commitment to continuing education, and a track record of producing excellent results for patients. Dr. Morelli has received numerous awards throughout his time as a dental student, practicing dentist, and dental educator. He is the author of numerous academic publications intended to move the fields of periodontics and implant dentistry forward.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are the ultimate treatment for missing teeth because they are the only option for replacing teeth from root to crown. A dental implant is anchored in the jawbone to replace missing tooth roots. Implants fuse with the jaw in a process called osseointegration, allowing them to provide unmatched stability for custom-made restorations. Dental implants are also the only treatment that can prevent jaw atrophy after tooth loss. They can truly revitalize your dental function and appearance.
All-on-4 Dental Implants
Some patients don't immediately qualify for implant-supported dentures due to low jawbone density, but All-on-4® implants can overcome this issue without the need for bone grafting. To place a traditional implant-supported denture, a dentist must anchor it to at least six dental implants. With All-on-4, the posterior implants are angled to maximize contact with the existing jaw tissue, allowing many patients to bypass preparatory bone grafting. LAPIP
Unfortunately, even if a dentist or periodontist precisely executes each stage of implant placement, complications can still arise. One of the most common (though still rare) complications is peri-implantitis, in which the gum tissue surrounding an implant becomes infected and leads to bone loss around the implant. Rather than remove the implant and leave you with an incomplete smile, our periodontist can address the problem with LAPIP™. This FDA-approved laser gum procedure can target diseased tissue, only removing what is necessary, and even promote new bone growth, all without scalpels and sutures.
Gum Disease Therapy
The symptoms of gum disease may not seem that serious, but they can quickly balloon into complex issues that ruin your oral health. If you notice any common signs of early gum disease, like gum sensitivity, swollen or red tissue, or bleeding gums, you can get ahead of the issue by making an appointment with our periodontist. He provides gentle care for early, moderate, and advanced gum disease that can relieve your discomfort, improve your oral health, and protect your whole-body wellness.
LANAP
Many dentists who offer periodontal therapy for advanced gum disease use scalpels for treatment and sutures for recovery, but treatment with LANAP® is different. This FDA-approved gum therapy uses the PerioLase™ laser to target bacteria below the gumline. Dr. Morelli has the special training needed to provide this treatment. The LANAP protocol gently and effectively removes diseased gum tissue and promotes the regeneration of healthy gum tissue around the affected teeth. This treatment method is faster, more precise, more comfortable, and has a quicker recovery than the traditional method.

Payment Information
Our practice is not in-network for any dental insurance providers, but we'll be happy to file a claim on your behalf regardless. While this means you can expect to pay more than your regular co-pay, your benefits may still apply to your treatment. However, we don't want out-of-pocket expenses to come between our patients and the periodontal care they need, so we gladly accept multiple forms of financing. Our practice takes payments through CareCredit® and LendingClub®, both of which offer loans with little or no interest that are repayable in smaller monthly installments.
We also extend savings to our patients through in-house membership plans. These annual plans include coverage for a cleaning, exam, X-rays, and an oral cancer screening, as well as discounts on additional periodontal treatments. You'll even receive a 5% discount on your plan if you sign up with two or more family members.
